Founded
in 1985 the UK Wing Chun Kung Fu Assoc. is celebrating its 21st year and
is one of the longest established martial art associations in the country.
This experience has been used to create a custom built Wing Chun Kung
Fu School that is dedicated to the progress of the student.
From the moment you approach the building it will be obvious to you that
a lot of care and effort has gone into making a school that is both aesthetically
pleasing and highly functional.
The Kwoon (Chinese term for martial art school) is sited on on Lubards
Farm in Hulbridge Road, Rayleigh and is operating 7 days a week and through
day and evening sessions.
The land owner has given permission for the UKWCKFA students to use the
1 1/2 mile horse training track as a jogging route. This will help in
further developing student fitness.
Once you approach the the Kwoon you see the distinctive and artistic signage
that has been designed to give an immediate feel for the activity to be
held here. This combined with hand made tall windows gives the feeling
of height and light and an oriental atmosphere.
The reception area is beautiful with warm beech flooring
and an orignal and attractive curved wall. The wall has an inset which
houses a bonsai and waterfall display. The whole reception and display
area is lit by dimmable downlighters.
The kwoon floor has high quality judo matts for safety and there is over
8 metres of mirror along one wall. Your first impression is of a ballet
school where every tiny detail must be examined by the performers, and
you realise this too is a Centre of Excellence.
Along
one wall there are four various size heavy punch bags. There are Wing
Chun wall/sand bags, height adjustable speed ball, floor to ceiling speed
ball and the infamous wooden dummy.
The
school has low voltage dimmable down-lighting in the training area which
is used for meditation classes and sports therapy sessions etc. The dimmable
lighting is frequently used when teaching Chi Sau (Sticky Hands) to encourage
students to develop a tactile reflex to pressure and direction change.
One wall is dedicated to training when you have nowhere to retreat, you
literally fight with your back the the wall. Add to this the four 150watt
speakers and you can see how the mood can be changed instantly.
The timetable allows for many different classes so beginners will never
feel out of their depth and we can accomdate existing wing chun students
from other schools at any level. The classes on A sturday morning are
a mixed group and even if you are from another Association, you are welcome
to attend and check out our approach.
There are already childrens classes from 6 years up on Mon, Wed &
Fridays from 5:45pm and ladies only classes on Wednesday evenings from
7pm.
The UKWCKFA Centre of Excellence has been designed with experience and
expert consultation to aid students in achieving the best they can for
themelves and each other.
