Wallbag training is an important element in the repetoire of all Wing Chun practitioners. This 1 minute clip from our new DVD demonstrates some of the action in application from the video. We can only give you a brief glimpse as the DVD is almost 2 hours long!
Wing Chun is not famous for it's kicking skills, but this is a gross misjudgment. Because we chose not to kick high does not result in a style that can't kick! Here, Sifu Kevin Oldman, takes a small part of his 3rd level grading. You will see all the standard eight kicks from the Mook Jong (dummy) and some simple variations too. The idea of the format is to bring a little more life to the format of dummy training. The combinations are not set and are put together as they come. You will see some sweeps, cross stamp kicks and pressure point strikes using the heel. Also for your enjoyment (we hope) is the continuation into hand techniques too.
Chi Sau Testing from Interactive CD-Rom. Quality for DSL users.
A clip from the CD-Rom featuring some simple individual techniques by our students at our Essex HQ.
Shot on a rooftop in Paddington London. The complete first form. You may even recongnise some of the famous London landmarks.
A lengthy cut consisting of the intro and final footage on the Pure and Simple video with Master Sinclair training and working out in Hockley Woods in Essex and shadow sparring in a basement.
Sifu Eric Wilson displays the kind of body conditioning possible through Wing Chun training. Here he takes solid body punches, but uses common sense to cover head blows!
There are a number of variations on Lok Sau. As Bong Sau is so common it is important to cover the space it creates underneath, as a lifting punch (uppercut) is possibly the most health damaging strike to the head. This second variation is from the second section of Chum Kui.
Self descriptive! Here you see that with some contact the Wing Chun stylist can orient himself to find ways to approach the opponent. There are purposeful breaks shown to display the theories of chum kui in bridge finding. The opponent could quite easily keep away and throw punches to defeat the blindfolded practitioner. But with some contact there is some small chance!
Hand conditioning is an important aspect in empty hand fighting. The Japanese use the Makiwara, and Wing Chun practitioners the wallbag or sandbag. The bag is solid and allows for rapid close range hand skills. It does not allow you to chase, as is necessary for real application of techniques, but hand speed is still an important aspect in the arsenal of any martial artist.
Like most martial arts we use skipping ropes, pads and heavy bags to build the attributes all martial artists endeavor to develop. It is NOT a boxing class. It is attribute training for Wing Chun.
For some reason this is almost expected of martial artists. It is actually of very little use use as none of us train for it, it is simply something we all can do as a result of our general conditioning. Here Master Sinclair displays extremely fast reaction and multiple breaks. To move that fast and accurately at close range is of value in the street! Surprise helps......
Unless you know nothing of Wing Chun, you know that Chi Sau is a game between two willing practitioners using a simple idea and frame. It is fantastic fun, but not the method of fighting, only its link to skill development. Here you will see some sparring and as it is in slow motion you may see some of the subtleties present.
Here you will see some footage of a typical kids class at the HQ. As you can see the children train safely and sensibly in the class. The footage includes Padwork, Lok Sau, hand to hand and the second section of the Sui Nim Tao.........
