As a woman, I would like to be able to defend myself, but the UK Wing Chun Schools don't appear to have any women training.  Is it a purposefully male dominated Assoc.?

I heard it was invented by a woman and therefore great, it seems there are a lot of fitness and competition based guys here. It also looks like I am the only women who has posted here.

I think you have formed the wrong idea re the association. I have been training for about three years at HQ and in that time have trained with several women.

Master James is so keen to attract women he has had a number of initiatives including FREE (Thats FREE no cost and No Obligation) self defence courses and a Ladies only training Night .

I dont know what the current state of play is all i can say is contact the association ASAP and find out for yourself.   Do it soon  i think that we have recently or are about to have a new beginners intake.

re the suitable training for women bit, i like many of the students have trained in a number of "concussive" styles Boxing/ Karate etc. I have stuck with Wing Chun because it doesnt rely on solely powerful puiunches etc but on chops and thrusts to vital areas. I have two children "girls" whom i have encouraged to train Wing Chun for this reason,

Please ring up or come down to find out for yourself that we are all "nice" people who do an effective style.

You wont regret it

Hi

Wing chun unlike Karate is not as widely known or popular, for every one student Wing Chun gains a Karate dojo probably gains 10, because of this it is less likely to see as many women in wing chun, even though in my humble opinion wing chun is a much more effective style of self defence for women. It was after all created by a women who was having to defend herself from male aggressors on a day to day basis.

It would be great to see more women join the UKWCKFA, Cedric was right in pointing out that a new beginnners intake has just started in en-rolling at the Essex HQ this is on a Tuesday at 7:00pm, if you do not live in the Essex area there is I belive an new beginners intake in the London HQ as well.

The Association has a womens only class on Wednesday nights at 7pm at the HQ in Rayleigh, Essex.

If there where sufficent numbers of women at any branch they would also run womens only classes. We have a 15 year old girl student at our branch, she benefits by training in a mixed class, we do not adjust lessons specifically for her because there is no need to. she has learnt to deal with guys who are bigger and stronger than herself in a safe and controlled environment.

the style was created by a women a relies on good tecnique to overcome build or strength.

contact your local branch and find out if its possible to do a womans only class if you can interest some of your friends to go as well it might make it viable
